WHITTIER – A trio of masked thieves made off with a “large amount” of jewelry and cash Tuesday after an armed takeover-style robbery at a jewelry store, officials said. The crime was reported just after 1 p.m. at Murray Brown Jewelers, 15344 Whittier Blvd., said Whittier police spokeswoman Diana Salazar. Two men and a woman, all wearing masks, entered the store and displayed at least two handguns before ordering the store’s owner and a customer to the back of the shop, said Salazar. The crooks then helped themselves to the goods in the display cases and fled in a Chevy HHR, she added. Two of the suspects were described as African-American males in their late 20s or early 30s wearing baggy blue jeans, said Salazar. One of them was about 6 feet tall, of a thin build, and wearing a white long-sleeve shirt under a second mesh shirt, she said. The other man was estimated at 5 feet 11 inches tall and wearing a white shirt, Salazar said. The female suspect was described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and wore a red shirt. Police declined to disclose the exact amount of money and jewelry obtained.
